A Note From Jennie’s Mom……
This page is going to be for parents of children with diabetes as well as the children themselves. We will be providing insight into our lives while dealing with diabetes, and information that we hope will be helpful to others.
Every family is different. Every diabetic family has different challenges. Our goal is to help share our story, and to let everyone know that we have come to create a life that is our own version of “normal”. If you are new to this dreaded disease, just remember, you too will adjust to the routine, and you too will find normalcy in your lives.
Jennie is a child that enjoys the same things as every other seven-year-old child. She participated in ballet for three years, played T-Ball this past summer, and is a very healthy and active girl. Gary and I do everything in our power to see to it that Jennie’s school environment is as normal as possible. We are blessed to have a wonderful school nurse who has made it possible for us to send her to school with confidence each day. Thanks to Jennie’s wonderful first grade teacher, she is able to enjoy school, and is making great grades.
Jennie is our hero. She is resilient, happy and extremely intelligent. She does not complain about the 4-6 injections that she endures each day, or the numerous finger sticks she has to have to check her blood sugar. She understands that there is no option at this time. We are all optimistic that treatments are continuing to improve, and we believe that there will be a cure for diabetes eventually. In the meantime, Jennie continues to be a trooper, and moves on to live her life to it’s fullest.
I wish the best for all children and families dealing with diabetes. I continue to pray for a cure, and for God to help Gary and I take are of Jennie until that cure is found.
God Bless,
Colleen
